Vasilopita is the Greek Cypriot traditional St. Basil's cake that is eaten on New Years Day. A coin is hidden in the mixture of the cake before baking.

On New Year's Day families cut the Vasilopita cake to bless the house and bring good luck for the new year. This tradition is usually done just after midnight of New Year's Eve and the person cutting the cake makes the sign of the cross with a knife across the cake. A piece of cake is then sliced for each member of the family and guests by order of age from eldest to youngest. The person who finds the coin is said to have good luck for that year!
